The Crane Fund for Widows and Children has awarded The Y a $10,000 grant

STAMFORD, Conn., September 8, 2017 – Children at the Stamford Family YMCA (“The Y”) had the “best summer ever” at The Y’s Camp Mini, Camp WOW and Teen Adventure Camp Programs committed to making sure kids and teens in Stamford are adventurous, active and healthy during the summer months. YMCA camp programs offer youth fun and unique experiences with an opportunity to explore the outdoors, meet new friends, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime.

The Crane Fund for Widows and Children has awarded The Y a $10,000 grant to ensure all youth have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive during the summer months. “All children deserve to experience the magic of summer camp and we are truly grateful for the contribution from The Crane Fund for Widows and Children which ensures hundreds of children in Stamford are engaged and learning in a safe, positive environment,” said Clinton Hamilton, CEO of the Stamford Family YMCA. “We are truly thankful for the Crane Fund for Widows and Children’s commitment to helping us improve the quality of life for our children.”

The Crane Fund for Widows and Children, established in 1914 by the founders of Crane Co., is dedicated to serving those in need, with a focus on communities where Crane Co. facilities are located.  “On behalf of the Trustees of the Crane Fund for Widows and Children, we are pleased and proud to continue to support the work of the Stamford Family YMCA, focused on providing a safe, active and fun learning environment for the children of Stamford”, said Jim Lavish, Trustee of the Crane Fund for Widows and Children.

The Stamford Family YMCA’s campership fund is critical to ensuring that summer enrichment opportunities are accessible to underserved youth—and therefore critical to keeping at-risk youth safe and engaged during the summer months. The campership fund allows the YMCA to offer reduced fees to low-income and underserved families, while still meeting operational costs. Each summer, the Stamford Family YMCA offers quality summer programming, with a focus on academic enrichment, social skill development, outdoors and physical recreation, and field trips to over 350 children.

Summer camps benefit children and youth by:

  • Engaging children and youth in safe and enriching summer activities
  • Providing quality child care options for working parents
  • Promoting academic enrichment and reinforcing school learning
  • Encouraging positive relationships, positive values & identity
  • Offering outdoors and physical recreation activities
  • Developing important social and life skills
  • Increasing self-esteem, independence, and leadership skills
